Today is the 25th Anniversary of our 1st Single release Night To Remember – 29th April 1996! It entered the UK charts at No.38 on our own label The Ginga Recording Co. We sold around 10k copies to get into the official charts that first week when no one expected us to sell that many from a self funded release. 🎤 The pic on the CD single cover, we’d managed to get D&G to sponsor our clothes. We thought we looked well cool 😎 🎵 We chose to cover Night To Remember as a cover while sitting around the kitchen table with our manager Steve at his flat in Glasgow coz we were looking through a list of potential songs. 🎤 The Daily Star sponsored us £5k to do a school tour around Scotland at the beginning. 🎵 Our management was called Backlash and our manager was Steve Gilmour who I’m sure you’ll remember very well. The drive, vision and belief in what we were doing right from the start was unreal. Steve always managed to kick down doors and get us seen by the right people because of sheer persistence and not taking no for an answer. He’d then say it’s down to you guys to deliver on stage now and show everyone what you’ve got! 🎤 We were on the way to a gig down south so pulled over just as the Top 40 on radio one was being announced. We opened the car doors and had the windows down and blasted the radio & waited to see if we’d officially made it into the charts. We went crazy jumping up and down when the DJ said our name and played the song. One of those really special moments. 🎵 The fans, you followed us everywhere even before we’d released records. You would hire buses to drive all over the UK, it was amazing. The effort you made to support and help get us seen in those very early days was incredible to watch and to see more and more fans come on board was special. We did it together, and to finally get our first hit was for the fans as well as us because we’d literally grown 911 together before releasing that first song. 🎤 We did a full week of record store signing up and down the country if I remember and it was mental! Were you at any of those signings during that week in 1996? Any stories? Let me know 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
